Overview
Loans from the Commitment to Community Partnerships are provided by Citizens Bank, now part of FirstMerit Bank, helps you purchase, refinance or improve a qualified* home in select areas of Wayne County.
Home Purchase Loans
If you live in or desire to live in select areas of Wayne County, you could get a purchase loan with a rate at least 1 percent lower than the prevailing market rate, closing cost assistance and down-payment assistance.
Home Refinance Loans
The Commitment to Community Partnership is engaged in revitalizing Detroit and select areas of Wayne County. The citizens of this community are vital to the process. If you own a home in select areas of Wayne County and are paying anything more than 1 percent lower than the current market rate on your mortgage, it might be a good time to refinance.
Home Improvement Loans
Improving your home does more than increase your property value and make you feel good about where you live. Improving your home improves your neighborhood and your city.
If you own a home in select areas* of Wayne County and you have been meaning to repair, restore or otherwise improve your residence, the Commitment to Community Partnership may be able to help.
Owning a qualified*, single family home or condominium that is your primary residence may give you access to a loan to remodel your bathroom, replace your furnace, repair your roofing or make a number of other improvements. These loans offer several benefits:
- Unsecured $500 to $10,000 home improvement loans
- Waived processing fee
- At least a 1.5 percent below current market rates
Some items, such as furniture, appliances and drapes are not included in approved improvements. Please be sure to submit a list of improvements to be approved with your loan application.
Zoning and Code Compliance
Improvements to your home must comply with all local zoning ordinances and building codes, for homes in or adjacent to a City of Detroit designated historic district, the proposed work must meet the applicable requirements, including the issuance of a Certification Appropriateness from the City of Detroit Historic District Commission.
Program Start Date
Application submission started July 1, 2011 and continues until the funds are exhausted or the program is discontinued.
Availability of Funds
The Commitment to Community Partnership loan program, a collaborative effort of the City of Detroit, Mayor Dave Bing's Detroit Works Project, Citizens Bank, now part of FirstMerit Bank, and you, is subject to the availability of funds and may be canceled at any time.
Taxes and Insurance
You will be responsible for all applicable property taxes and insurance on the subject property.
